WE ARE MOONS, NOT SUNS.

Pride tempts us to believe that we are the center of our lives. Everything revolves around us. We are the light of everyone’s lives, and we are the main characters of our stories. This is, of course, wrong. Nothing revolves around us. We are not the light of others’ lives, nor are we the center of our own. We don’t illuminate anything, and our inherent sin darkens even our own eyes. God and His love for us is the blazing, solar center of our lives. It is only by His perfect love for us that we see anything and that we have any life at all. Like the moon reflects the light of the sun, we are called to simply reflect the light of Christ to the world. After Paul presents us with the example of Christ’s perfect humility to the point of death, he calls us to “shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life” (Phil. 2:15b–16a). We shine our light by humbly reflecting the sacrificial love of the true Light of the world who gives life to all who seek Him.
